Conceptually, My art is a form of self fashioning, introspection, and self actualization.
Visually, my art is a spectrum of self portraiture, reimagined tarot and oracle archetypes, and intuitive art guided by the subconscious.
With graphite, watercolor, acrylic, and ceramic pieces, I aim to unravel aspects of my identity as a queer black woman. This exploration is rooted in self portraits that serve as personifications of internal dialogue, and as opportunities for me to illustrate myself into roles that embody power and possibility. My work is also rooted in the following themes;
Memory as an adjacent to non-linear time
the ways in which trauma is held in the mind body and spirit
The act of visualizing ones manifestations
Pupiless expressive faces, third eyes, and meandering linework are all recurring visual motifs in my works. I utilize elements of storytelling and fantasy to literally and metaphorically give myself wings.Through imagined liberation, I can dissolve the mental blockages, obstacles, and harmful narratives that surround my marginalized body. To conclude,
My art is spellcasting.
My art is Magick.
My art is alive.
